Serco, one of the world’s leading Service Providers and outsourcing companies, wanted to relocate their Civil Government division from Bracknell to Hook where better intergration could be achieved with other Serco divisions occupying two existing buildings within the Business Park at Bartley Wood. Having previously successfully delivered a 30,000 sq ft fit out at the Cotton Centre in London for Serco Solutions, Area Sq had acquired the knowledge required for the fast track approach of this project and was subsequently appointed.
The most important challenge from the brief was to integrate the needs of Civil Government within Serco's future intentions to refurbish their existing two buildings and create a "consistent campus style" environment. This project effectively became a project within a bigger project and needed a full understanding of Serco’s longer term plans in order to successfully implement.
As well as accommodating all of the key business requirements from Civil Government, the area provides a suite of dedicated meeting rooms to be utilised by users from all three Serco buildings on the Business Park. In addition, Serco negotiated favourable rates for the acquisition of the central Atrium area which prior to its transformation, was effectively unused space. By carefully considering the flow of both Civil Government staff, guests and the Serco staff from the other buildings, Project Designer Kirsty Bell transformed the area into a hub by creating a holding area for guests of the meeting suite and an informal meeting/breakout zone.
Peter Daniels, Project Manager for Serco commented "Flexibility and adaptability were the key to success. We were able to share the challenges of this project and we liked the can do attitude of the Area Sq team. Nothing was too much trouble despite us changing our mind constantly".
