G Adventures, the socially-responsible and sustainable adventure travel pioneer, wanted a stronger presence in the UK due to continuing success and expansion. Existing workspace was overcrowded and off-brand, with no breakout space
Key drivers were creating a UK office reflecting a unique, playful culture and core values of “love”, “lead”, “create”, “embrace” and “do” to attract and retain the best talent as well as creating a ‘shop front’ to encourage walk-in customers and increase impulse sales.
A large breakout area was incorporated for meeting and socialising away from the open-plan area. Quintessentially English-themed meeting rooms were introduced, following staff suggestions, with James Bond and Royalty meeting spaces incorporating quirky design features and furniture including high backed chairs, thrones and furry baddie cats, reflecting fun and character and creating an engaging visitor experience. Striking signage and feature lighting was used in the double height lobby to attract passers-by and increase walk-ins.
Two red replica London phone boxes were dropped in for private calls and Skyping the global offices. The result is a range of activity-based-working environments to support the company’s young workforce.

Additional desking was provided to accommodate future growth and Area Sq worked closely with G Adventures’ marketing team to ensure brand integrity. By harnessing creativity, this empowered their involvement with the design and specification of the office environment. Some G Adventures contacts were based in Canada so out-of-hours conference calls were arranged to work around the different time zones. The office is named ‘The Summit’, representing the apex of all G Adventures offices.
