Cargill is an international producer and marketer of food, agricultural, financial and industrial products and services.
The company wanted to create an environment which promoted healthy lifestyles and accommodated flexible working patterns due to the multinational business and different time zones. Cargill therefore decided to build an in-house health and fitness centre and chose Area Sq to convert the disused under croft car park and storage area.
James Cornwell, Design Director at Area Sq, commented: "Starting from a disused car park which was open to the elements was a real blank canvas and presented many challenges such as the lack of services and making the area watertight. We also had to consider design very carefully and work closely with the Council to exactly match the look and feel of the existing building".
The fitness centre, which can accommodate up to 30 people, is split into three specific areas encompassing cardio, stretch and resistance exercise, and boasts a treatment room and shower & changing facilities. The gym was opened in grand style by New Zealand Rugby All Black legend Zinzan Brooke.
Head of Facilities at Cargill comments: "The office gym has been extremely well received by everybody here and take up has been beyond our expectations. We are delighted with the facility that Area Sq delivered."
